Tehran Int’l Animation Festival to screen award-winners

The 12th edition of the Tehran International Animation Festival (TIAF) in Iran has been set to screen a lineup of award-winning movies.

The organizers announced that the international section of the event will offer movies that have won worldwide praises.

The lineup includes short animated drama ‘Daughter’ (2019) by Daria Kashcheeva from the Czech Republic. It is an animated puppet drama that explores the subject of the father-daughter relationship.

The film had its international premiere at the biggest global animation festival in Annecy, France, where it won the main Crystal prize for the best student film in 2019.

The list also contains ‘The Kite’ by Martin Smatana from the Czech Republic. It is a short puppet animated film that talks about the issue of death, but in a simple metaphoric and symbolic approach.

‘Uncle Thomas: Accounting for the Days’ by Regina Pessoa from Canada, Portugal, and France as well as ‘Serial Parallels’ by Max Hattler from Hong Kong will also be screened.

The list goes on with ‘Per Aspera Ad Astra’ by Franck Dion from France. It is about the ordinary day-to-day life of a small hard-working and constantly rushed cleaning hen that is torn between its work and its family.

The lineup also includes ‘Freeze Frame’ by Soetkin Verstegen from Belgium, Germany, and Finland, ‘Gravedad’ by Matisse Gonzalez from Germany, as well as ‘Muedra’ by Cesar Diaz Melendez from Spain.

Some 1,043 foreign animated films were submitted to the TIAF to take part in the festival’s International Competition section.

The submitted films are from 85 countries, including Japan, China, France, Austria, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Italy, the Netherlands, India, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, Lebanon, Switzerland, and Poland.

Meanwhile, 459 Iranian animations were submitted to participate in the TIAF’s Iran Competition section.

The TIAF is a biennial event organized by Iran’s Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults.

The event also includes sections such as Out of Competition, Special Screening, and Panorama.

The upcoming edition of the TIAF has been rescheduled, due to the coronavirus outbreak, to be held on February 28-March 4, 2021.
